The thing that makes all this work is the obscene amounts of money people will pay for advertising. I've heard that many companies will pay upwards of 30$ to have thier products sampled.
1) You sign up with the company and choose what gift you want (various types of mp3 players in this case).
2) Then you have to try some product/service. Most are free or else charge a small shipping & handling fee. After a couple of days the site will recognize that you have completed the offer and give you credit for it. If you wish, at this point you can cancel whatever you signed up for to avoid any scheduled fees. (Most offers are similar to the free magazines where you get 2-3 issues and they bill you for a subscription if you don't cancel.)
This is a 5 minute process and a phone call in a couple days if your offer is one that needs to be cancelled. (many are one shot free samples where you only pay shipping)
This is all I'm asking you to do. However if you wish to take a some more time and get your own, keep reading.
3) You need to get 5 other people to sign up for the service, much like I'm asking you to sign up. When/if you sign up you will get a link like this http://www.mp3players4free.com/default.aspx?r=372641. This is your referral link. If you are going to find people to sign up for you, you must give them your refferal link or you will not get credit when they sign up.
Note: I've was actually suprised to notice that I've not really gotten any spam as a result of this. However if you are concerned about using your email address let me know. I can set up a temporary you@waffqle.com address that forwards to your normal address. Then when you're done with this I can delete it. WGA = Windows Genuine Advantage, MS new plan to only allow software updates to people who verify that they aren't running pirate software.

Sometimes you take things for granted and forget the value of the good things that you have in your life, so Microsoft comes back with a reminder to check and see if you are running genuine software. And then you receive benefits to thank you for continuing to run genuine Windows. You activate once and you are done with it, so this is kind of a lifecycle reminder."
Note the middle. "Sometimes you forget how good life is, so Microsoft is gonna verify your software licensing." What in the hell do those two ideas have to do with each other?
I live in fear of the day when this becomes mandatory. Spam will flow like water. All those people who have infected computers don't care. They don't know. All this does is piss off the people that have to deal with the spam thier boxes spew out. |

1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
100-200 and maybe another 50 or so on the computer at a given time. I don't really know if digital ones count as 'owned' in the technical sense though as I don't really have a license. That's the sad thing though, the MPAA bitches about people pirating films all day long. But try this, try to buy a digital copy of a movie. I don't mean rip a DVD, I mean somewhere that will let you download a film legally & with a license. Hell, download a movie the traditional way, call the people that own it and tell em you just wanna pay for the rights to watch it. You can't. I've tried. (I'm not even gonna get into the whole DRM encumberment thing.) They bitch and bitch and bitch but they refuse to allow film downloads because they're afraid.... they will be too easy to pirate. It doesn't matter, the people that are pirating these things aren't having trouble locating them. All your doing is giving up an entire market segment, a whole fucking medium. Its no different than if DVD players and burners had came out but they refused to license movies on anything other than VHS and got pissed cause people moved em onto the more versatile medium that is DVD.
And when you finally do wake up and start selling the information instead of the medium don't expect me to pay the same price. I'm not paying for shiny boxes if I'm not getting them. Don't fucking pull the bandwidth card either, P2P has come a long way. BitTorrent fucking works and it's not the only thing that does. Don't expect me to foot the bill for you to sit around pretending that it's still 93 anymore than Netflix would expect me to pay 100$ a movie because they decided to start delivering via Connestoga Wagons. You know, that's another good point. Netflix wouldn't even exist if you fuckers would make the minimal investment and just join the modern world. I mean look at it, people wait days to get videos when blockbuster is 4 blocks away. We're that lazy. Image the riches that are to be had if you could perfect the system and get rid of those last 20' between the mailbox and the door. Also, check out the fucking longtail economy. That's half the reason Netflix is even able to make any money delivering digital content through the fucking postal system. Did you hear me? Broadband penetration is around 50-60% and we have digital content being delivered in the MAIL; some of it exclusivly so.
You asses are sitting up there amazed at how much money you can make despite completely ignoring your customers. While it's good to be aware of things like this, you've come to the wrong damn conclusion. It's not that you know what's best for us. We just like movies enough to put up with it. Instead of thinking about how much you made you need to be thinking about how much you could make if you actually gave people what they fucking want. Instead of jerking off to graphs of your success you need to be worried about how successful the motherfuckers are going to be that are coming up. The ones that are listening to people. The ones that are looking into new distribution methods, and new ways to do things. It's going to be like when Western Union got that telegraph that said "It turns out people do like telephones." Mark Cuban is going to fuck your shit up.
2) The last film I bought:
Matrix 2: Re-something. I was eating some chinese food and I just had a great urge to see the second Matrix film. I think I've realized why everyone always likes the middle movie the best in trilogies. Once you've seen it, you know how it starts, and you know how it ends. There is no replay value there. You can't unlearn it and make it surprising again. People just wanna watch it happen.
